Abstract

Corynascus verrucosus, a member of Chaetomiaceae, is described and illustrated as second record for science and new to India. It was isolated as endophyte from flower bud of Jatropha podagrica. It is characterized by non-ostiolate ascomata, peridium with brown appendages and ellipsoidal ascospores with acute ends and two sub-terminal to oblique germ pores. Its anamorph was also produced on all media tested. The ascomata and ascospores are somewhat smaller than those described for the holotype of this species. The morphological identification is supported by ITS DNA sequence data.
